He played with presidents, won millions of adoring fans with his swash-buckling style and was a fierce competitor who became the game’s greatest ambassador. Arnold Palmer, the ‘King of Golf’, passed away just over a week ago on 26th Sept from complications following heart surgery. It was a big heart.
A memorial service is being held in Latrobe Pennsylvania today at 11am ET – that’s 4pm UK time.

Arnie was more than a golfer, but an icon such as the world rarely sees. Rory McIlroy’s response to his death was to share a story of a conversation he had with Palmer, who said “Son, let me know if you ever need anything”, to which McIlroy responded “Mr Palmer, because of you, I’ll never want for anything in my life”.
